It is with great sadness that we learned the death of Mr. Simon Painchaud. We will remember him as a hard worker and a gifted pioneer. He was above all an excellent father and husband who shared his life with his wife Lisette for over thirty years.
He was an outstanding ambassador for Ile-aux-Grues and especially for the agricultural industry. President of the Cooperative of Ile-aux-Grues since 1980 and member since 1979, he was the last founding member of our cooperative. He strongly believed in cooperative values, and that is why he became chairman of another cooperative in 1999. Today we lost a great man who was the pillar of the cooperative movement, committed to its values and principles. Simon also was a firm advocate of human-scale agriculture.
Simon, you never gave up in the face of adversity, you always found time for running successfully several projects and you knew how to create consensus. Your memory will always remain a source of inspiration to us.Congratulations to our inspiring cooperator, we will continue the great work you started.

July 2009 – The « Fromagerie Île-aux-Grues » is recognized as a HACCP establishment (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). It involves the application of a rigorous food safety control system within the cooperative. The purpose of the HACCP program is to prevent any health risks posed to consumers, thereby providing them with the assurance that our products are safe for consumption. Manufacturing high quality products remains our top priority and under the HACCP system we are able to meet this objective.
April 2009 - The « Fromagerie de Île-aux-Grues » won the Canadian Cheese Grand Prix 2009 in the category Medium Cheddar (aged 4 to 9 months) with its Ile-aux-Grues Medium Cheddar. This artisanal made cheddar comes from an old recipe, developed by the first cheese makers of the island in the 1900s.It is with gratitude that the members and the staff of the cheese factory receive this prestigious prize, which demonstrates once again the excellence of their products.
