Our Producers
United by Freshness and Quality
Only Milk from the Isle
Fromagerie de l’Île-aux-Grues relies on close collaboration relies on close collaboration with its milk producers. All milk produced on the Isle is primarily dedicated to the creamery. This unique characteristic is at the heart of the success of our products, our company itself, and our brand. It guarantees their quality, freshness, and consistency while revealing the uniqueness and vibrancy of our agriculture.
In fact, we have all the characteristics of a farmstead creamery. Our difference: a group of dairy producers sharing the same confined territory, the same microclimate, and the same passion for refinement and solidarity.
Milk from the Salt Marshes
One river, two islands, a high marsh, a microclimate. Connecting Fromagerie de l’Île-aux-Grues and Isle-aux-Oyes, the Isle-aux-Grues High Marsh, the largest wild high marsh in Eastern North America, this 4,000-acre flatland has been recognized for its rich saline ecosystem and the quality of its agricultural land since the beginning of colonization. This is where you’ll find the famous marsh hay, or sea hay, which makes the fodder so distinctive and allows the cows to produce such flavorful, unique milk.
Even today, the herds benefit from these rich pastures, which remain an inseparable ingredient of our brand. The ecological protection of the High Marsh’s natural environment allows for better utilization of all the agricultural lands of the two Isles, cradled by the marine wind from the river’s saline waters.
In Respect of Agricultural Tradition
Over the tides and seasons, our collaboration has evolved. It now includes three producers who carefully preserve an agricultural heritage among the most distinctive in Canada. From the first seigneury of the 17th century to our ancestors and farmer grandparents, from the founding cooperators of 1977 to the current members of the Agrilait limited partnership, all are linked by this vision of a terroir to be valued.
Anchored in both heritage and modernity, our collaboration continues the tradition and carries it into cheeses of great finesse that evoke this flavorful terroir, this inviting Isle.
