About
Fromagerie de l’Île-aux-Grues
In the heart of the St. Lawrence
Located about 75 km from Quebec City, windswept and cradled by the St. Lawrence River, the largest artisanal cheese factory in Canada stands at the heart of a unique location that has shaped its authenticity and the local economy. A cheese factory that works in close collaboration with the island’s milk producers, where solidarity, an island microclimate, and century-old expertise have created extremely refined products while preserving local agriculture and the terroir.
Since 1977, this collaboration has succeeded in creating a creamy, smooth, and inimitable signature that is now highly sought after by food lovers.
A century-old cheesemaking tradition
A history closely linked to agriculture and island life. As early as 1900, the isolation that required milk to be processed on the island quickly evolved into products of pure authenticity. It was through this solidarity that a now century-old expertise in the artisanal production of aged cheddars was built.
From subsistence to renown
A century-old expertise preserved through our aged cheddars and applied for the past twenty years to the development and production of world-renowned fine cheeses. A fabulous story still driven by a passion for flavor.
Recognized classics
Riopelle de l’Isle. Canotier de l’Isle. Tomme de Grosse-Île. More recently, La-Bête-À-Séguin and L’Angélique-À-Marc. These creations have left their mark on the industry and the palates of connoisseurs both here and abroad. Over the years, our fine cheeses have received prestigious awards, all of which are a tangible expression of our mastery and the simply distinctive character of our products.
A recognized signature
True masterpieces recognized for their unparalleled smooth and creamy texture. A sought-after signature resulting from the brilliant combination of an island microclimate, agricultural tradition, artisanal expertise, and a passion for fine food.
